Summer Film Camp
The Classes
At the Summer Film Camp, your child will take 5 different classes! Students are grouped by age and form production teams to film their projects. Each of the classes that your child will take daily are outlined below:
Screenwriting
Students will learn how to draft treatments, format screenplays and draw storyboards as they write their own script! The class is designed for fundamental building blocks for structuring a three act narrative.

Directing
From camera blocking to character development, students will learn the key skills every director needs when shooting! One of our most popular classes, this course teaches the students the fundamental principles behind directing.
Designed to provide the students with a solid foundation in film directing, the curriculum focuses heavily on staging, framing, blocking and character relationships.

Where it takes place.
Classes and courses will take place at the home of the Rancho Cordova Children's Theatre Company, the Cal Cap Black Box Theatre. Summer Film Camp runs from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm over two weeks in the summer.

Cinematography
Students work with cinema digital cameras as they explore shot composition, camera movement, framing and lighting! In this class, students are given a chance to learn the key elements of cinematography including exposure, aperture, shutter speed, shot sizes, camera angles and camera moves!
Students are also taught how to create a shot list based on a script as well as the different positions on a cinematography crew.

Editing
When students finish their film they will learn how to edit, add effects, graphics and titles using Adobe Premiere Pro CC! In this class, students are taught how to assemble a film using the footage captured by the director. Special attention is paid to parallel editing (or cross cutting), along with the different kinds of transitions available when editing a film.

Production
Students will Immerse themselves in the movie making process as they take their film from first storyboard to the final cut! The production class allows students to work on two different projects: a commercial and a short film. Each day, students are given three hours to focus exclusively on their project under the direct mentorship of our teachers. A copy of the final product is sent home with the student for their family to enjoy.

Our PAL Program
Written, Directed, and acted by the students.
Students have a voice and thrive on sharing their opinions to shape their future communities. One of the best platforms to share these opinions is by creating Public Service Announcements (PSA) about their passions for change. Though PSAs usually do not require much script writing, they do require students to tell a persuasive story. PSAs are often visual stories that provide information to an audience, evoke an emotion, and often have a call to action. They usually encourage the viewer to want to take some kind of action (i.e. spaying or neutering pets, donating money or switching to reusable bags). A successful PSA is persuasive.
